Assignment:  Students will write a 1000-word research paper on an important person from the 20th century. The paper will focus on how or why the person has had an impact on society and what his/her major contributions were.  Five sources will be required.  Only one source may come from the Internet, but that source will not count as one of the five sources.   

I. You may want to consult:

Great lives from history : Twentieth century series (REF CT120 .G69 1990)

Time: the 100 most important people of the century (Internet site)

See the Reference Staff for suggestions of books related to specific categories, such as musicians, artists, writers, athletes, scientists, inventors, etc. 

II. Books to check out or view online

• Type in the person's name
• Note the Location and Status--Main Campus Library (to check out) or Online netLibrary (electronic book)

III.  Use these electronic databases for information from magazines, newspapers, and reference books.
                   (Passwords are required from off-campus)
